WHAT IS MANUAL THERAPY?

Manual Therapy is a hands-on treatment provided by a skilled physical therapist dedicated to ensuring that all of your wellness needs are met. Manual physical therapy is any highly skilled and specialized technique involving laying hands on a patient to effect change in a neuro-musculoskeletal condition. These techniques have been developed over centuries and honed through years of clinical reasoning, research, and evidence-based practice.

The primary goal of manual therapy is to reduce your pain and improve your function, to maximize your future potential.

Manual Therapy has many physiological, neurological, biomechanical, and psychological benefits. Manual Therapy may improve tissue quality and extensibility, increase range of motion, improve your posture and joint biomechanics, relax spasms and strain, improve muscle firing and function, modulate pain, reduce swelling and inflammation, facilitate tissue repair and regeneration, and restore balance to body systems.

Insight Rehab specializes in highly skilled Manual Therapy. Our therapists participate in ongoing continuing education to expand and hone their manual therapy skills. Many of our clinicians have more than 10 years of experience and training in the practice of Integrative Manual Therapy.

There are many types of Manual Therapy. Below is a list of some commonly used techniques and approaches. Head over to our Blog to read more about these different types of treatment!

Integrative Manual Therapy

Integrative Manual Therapy is a unique type of manual therapy developed by Dr. Sharon Weiselfish Giammatteo, PhD, PT, IMT-C.

IMT uses a conglomeration of different manual therapy theories, techniques, and methodologies to address pain and dysfunction and help the body heal itself. A holistic approach to physical therapy, IMT practitioners sense blockages in body systems and work to guide your tissues to clear those impairments and restore optimal function.

Insight Rehab is honored to be an official training center of Manual Therapy Seminars, one of the leaders in Integrative Manual Therapy training in the country. Several of our top therapists, with more than 10–35 years’ experience practicing IMT, serve as instructors and teaching assistants for Manual Therapy Seminars, training the next generation of physical therapists in this ground-breaking and life-changing treatment strategy.
